Robert was driving his car on the day of the incident, where he was suddenly struck by another vehicle, the impact was severe, and the force pushed his car into the motor vehicle in front. Gardaí attended the scene; he went home and then made his own way to the Hospital.
After the accident, Robert complained of pain particularly in his shoulder and chest due to the force of the impact and some tests were carried out for suspected concussion. He also felt an injury to his left thumb but did not think at the time that it was significant. However, the left thumb injury deteriorated in the days following.
He then attended his General Practitioner and Robert reported that he felt that he had been impacted more than once. He reported pain in his neck, lower back and chest, which then led to difficulty breathing and weakness in both hands. On review 8 months later, some housework tasks were difficult for him to do as well as the activities of daily living. He was advised to continue home physiotherapy exercises.
A further 2 years later Robert reported intermittent pain in the right scapula area, that his pain was aggravated in the gym, and he had pain in the inner left wrist along with a clicking noise in the wrist where he still needs a wrist strap for support due to the implications of his accident.
Partner Caoimhe McConnell instigated Court proceedings, and the case was brought to a successful conclusion.
